Staparska Spa

Staparska Spa

At the sixth kilometer upstream from Uzice, not far from the Belgrade-Bar railway, in the picturesque area of the village of Stapari, next to the bed of the river Djetinja, there is Staparska Spa. Staparska Spa consists of two localities – Donja and Gornja Staparska Spa with several thermal springs near the new and old railway station in Stapari.
Staparska Spa is an old thermal site in western Serbia, and it is believed that bathing remains of prehistoric origin were found on it. The springs were used in the ancient period and in the time of the Romans who had smaller settlements nearby. Medicinal springs of Staparska Spa were also used by the inhabitants of these areas in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by some nearby toponyms, as well as in the period between the two wars. The water temperature of 28 ° C allows its use for bathing, spraying, rinsing, drinking, and inhalation.
The spring in Donja Staparska Spa is captured in the form of a small pool built of stone and is used for swimming in the summer. The arrangement and maintenance of the spa space were entrusted to the Association of Spa Lovers from Uzice.

Donja Staparska Spa is located just below the Stapari railway station. It is characterized by several underground sources of thermal water that are captured in a small pool and whose water is used for balneological purposes as an auxiliary remedy.
During 2018, the site of Donje Spa was completely arranged in a partnership and cultural way, so that there are all the elements for visitors to relax and enjoy the picturesque and untouched nature. In addition to the pool with two changing cabins, access has been arranged with a pedestrian staircase, benches and deck chairs have been set up, six rest areas with a shared barbecue area and one central facility available to members of the Spa Lovers Association and other visitors. To improve the state of the environment, wooden bins for waste and recycling, metal holders for bicycles and poles for tying dogs have been installed.
The area is enriched with seedlings of indigenous plants and grass characteristic of the gorge of the river Djetinja, while the surrounding terrain is leveled and free for multipurpose use.

During 2015, the Institute for Rehabilitation from Belgrade performed a physical and chemical analysis of thermo-mineral water from the natural spring of Staparska Spa. Based on the analysis, the following was determined:
• The water is clear, colorless with a slight odor of hydrogen sulfide
• Water temperature is 28 ° C at an air temperature of 30 ° C, which classifies it as hyperthermal water
• The pH value of water is 7.5 and gives a slightly basic reaction
• Total mineralization is 0.49 g / l, and the dry residue at a temperature of 180 ° C is 0.283 g / l, which classifies it as low-mineralized water
• The presence of dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2) is very discreet
• Calcium (Ca ++) and magnesium (Mg ++) cations are dominant
• Anionic composition characterized by hydrocarbonate ions (HCO3)
Based on the analysis, it was established that the mineral water from the natural source of thermal mineral water Donja Spa belongs to the category of slightly alkaline oligomineral sulfide calcium-magnesium-hydrocarbonate hypothermia and as such can be used for balneological purposes as an auxiliary remedy.
The analysis indicates positive balneological experience in the use of this water in the rehabilitation of diseases of the locomotor system, arterial hypertension without signs of cardiac decompensation, cardiovascular diseases, neurological, gynecological and other diseases.

In accordance with the recommendations of the water analysis and the established rules of conduct in the area of Staparska Spa, the following restrictions have been defined:
• Mineral water is used exclusively as an auxiliary remedy by bathing, spraying, inhalation and drinking.
• The maximum allowed use of the pool (stay in the water) is 20 minutes and at the same time it can be used by a maximum of 10 people.
• It is not allowed to jump into the water, swim, spray, bring food and drinks, introduce pets, use sports equipment and use protective skin creams.

Gornja Staparska Spa is located on the left side of the riverbed of the river Cetinje, about one kilometer upstream from Donja Staparska Spa. It is characterized by two natural springs, one of which is arranged as a fountain, and the other was captured in 1920 from the bed of the river Djetinja by a stone wall.
With the passage of the narrow line Belgrade-Sarajevo (1925), the site experienced expansion until World War II, after which the number of visitors to the spa began to decline. The construction of the Belgrade-Bar high-speed railway (1971) additionally contributed to the lower utilization of the Gornja Spa for burying part of the site. The temperature of spring water is 18 ° C and has a positive balneological effect in the rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases.

Association of Spa Lovers is an ecological association that deals with nature conservation and protection of natural resources in the gorge of the river Djetinja with sustainable use. Together with the Alasi from Djetinja Association, it takes care of preserving and improving the existing fish stock (indigenous species).
The association hosts numerous individual and organized visits to the Staparska Spa site. With the previous announcement, the association is successfully implementing numerous events related to the promotion and popularization of sports, fishing, cycling, hiking and other outdoor activities.

Udruženje je domaćin brojnih individualnih i organizovanih poseta lokalitetu Staparska banja. Uz prethodnu najavu, udruženje uspešno realizuje brojna dešavanja vezana za promociju i popularizaciju sporta, ribolova, biciklizma, planinarenja i drugih aktivnosti na otvorenom.
